an instrument to the Lord

I cannot even believe it is already Christmas week. The Christmas season has flown by this year, but I have truly loved every second of it! And I cannot wait for all the fun things planned this week. We will be well taken care of here in Pampa:) We have 2 dinners Christmas eve and also breakfast, lunch, and dinner on Christmas day with so many of my favorite people! Plus, this is probably my favorite part of the entire thing...our investigator asked us to come over on Christmas and share a message with her entire family that she hasn't really talked to in 5 years! She came to church on Sunday and felt like she needed to work on her family relationships and felt like we should come and help with it! Christmas miracles are real. This gospel does so many wonderful things, but one of the best parts is it's ability to heal families through the Atoning sacrifice of our Savior, Jesus Christ. And we get to take a part of that on the day we celebrate His coming into the world! It is truly magical and I am so excited.

This week was so amazing too. We taught like 10 times the amount of lessons we were teaching at the beginning of the transfer. And we are finding such amazing people to teach! Including this one man named Scott. He was a former investigator that we met while out knocking. He is so excited to learn more, he ended up setting a baptismal date! That itself was a HUGE miracle...one of our sisters was asking questions about inviting people to be baptized, and it was exactly what we needed to study to really prepare Scott to accept the invitation. Tricia is still doing well. She is really progressing and is determined to get her answer! Just pray that she comes to church!! Also, our investigator that got out of jail and we found miraculously is now off the grid again, so that's sad, but our ward mission leader saw him yesterday still in Pampa, so I have faith that we will find him again! I seriously just love Pampa so much. We are so blessed, I am learning so much, and I am growing through the challenge of teaching these very faithful people. I love being an instrument to the Lord in bringing all His children to the fulness of the gospel and to the most happiness we can ever imagine!

Yesterday, we were able to go to our mission Christmas party, which was so much fun! The entire party was wonderful! We had a talent show of funny stuff to start and I loved hanging out with so many of the missionaries that I love! After was a lunch and then we had a more spiritual talent show. Our mission is seriously so talented!! I loved it. And I decided that I really need to develop some perform-able talents. But that wasn't even the best part. At the end, we watched this old movie called It's A Wonderful Life. It felt really weird to watch a real movie...but President had such a wonderful purpose in showing that one. Basically, the movie is all about this man discovering how important and wonderful his life really is.  I loved what President Heap shared, so I wanted to share it with y'all! Our lives are truly wonderful. We so often think that what we are doing means nothing, but according to the world's view, the life of Jesus Christ wasn't much. Yet, His life influenced the life all of us individually and eternally. I cannot even imagine life without Him. And it is the same for all of us! Our lives are worth so much. And I know that life would be so much less wonderful without each of you!

I love you all and hope you have a very merry Christmas! Have a marvelous week and I am so pumped to talk with all the family this Friday!
Love y'all!

Happy days all the Christmas time days

First off, thank you for the fun packages to mom and dad. My companions, the sisters I go on exchanges with, and I are all really enjoying the entertainment and fun they provide. It makes Christmas so much more fun than it already is! Sister Wilkins and I had a ball making the ginger bread house..it was much uglier than the picture on the box...And before I forget, next p-day will be on Tuesday because of our mission Christmas party! We have a place to skype but no set time. I'll let you know next week what we planned. Are there any times that work best for y'all? It will most likely be morning or early afternoon.

Okay, so this week was amazing. I was just in constant awe about how wonderful every single day was. We asked for miracles and we got them! Monday night, we taught as many lessons as we had all last week! Tuesday Sister Carter and I were with Sister Lorrigan from Childress on exchanges in Pampa. We got to teach some new people and use the Christmas message from the church! Which is so fun to use. It truly opens so many hearts. The next day we had zone training in Amarillo and I actually instructed on the "A Savior is Born" initiative. Which, is you haven't watched it yet, watch it!! It teaches so much truth in such a short amount of time.
I had so much fun talking about it with the zone. I talked about the star that appeared when Christ was born and how it lead those who were seeking Him directly to Him. And then I went on to compare how this initiative is a star that God has given us to lead those who seek Christ to Him. It is truly so amazing to me!

After zone training I headed to Canyon with Sisters Jackson, Carter, and Perez! We had so much fun. They are in a trio too, so we did a weird 3 way exchange. Wednesday night I was with Sister Jackson. That was a weird night...we street contacted an old man and he kept almost falling over so he was using my shoulder as a way to keep from falling, but he was uncomfortably rubbing my back at the same time. And then, a less active girl from their ysa branch ran up and hugged me and kissed my neck when she met me. I felt a little weird by the end of that night...but hey, it makes for funny memories! We also got to eat at this delicious Texas bbq place called fat boys. And that's basically how I felt by the end of that meal. Thursday morning I was with baby Perez! It was so much fun to be with her again. And because I trained her to try anything that the spirit prompts her to, we decided to knock a sorority house right off of WTAMU campus. It wasn't a sorority house....it was a FRATERNITY HOUSE We were both not trying to bust up laughing the entire time. But it actually turned out really well!! We had them watch A Savior is Born and they loved it. The spirit was so strong as we talked about it. Only with Sister Perez would something like that happen...

As soon as Sister Carter and I got back from Canyon, we jumped right into a night of splits. I was so hectic and I was exhausted, but I was able to teach 2 lessons in Spanish with a few members of our ward that can speak Spanish. And I got homemade Mexican food out of it, which I am never opposed to.

Also, 2 huge miracles of the week--2 of our former investigators got out of jail this week and now REALLY want to fix their lives. It's totally safe, so don't even worry. It was 100% led by the spirit how we ended up finding both of them this week and I am so excited about it! One of them even came to church yesterday! It just truly shows me how Heavenly Father will never stop trying to help us get back to Him. If you are ready, He will lead you back to Him!

Now finally, for the best part of the entire week! We had our ward temple day on Saturday and ti could have not been more perfect. We got there for the 9 am session and I learned so much. The temple is seriously one of the greatest blessings we have. There is so much we can receive and learn and feel there. I love it! Plus the sisters who are now serving in Carlsbad were there and I got to hear all about the work there and even see some of the members from Carlsbad. We went out for a bit before out ward baptism session and I ran into the Borger ward! I was able to see some of my favorite people and a ton of missionaries. It was like everyone was at the temple that day. Even President and Sister Heap were there! Then, we went to do baptisms with the ward. Megan was able to come! And a woman named Pam who we have been helping a ton to come back to church. It was both of their first times! Another man in our ward who had been less active for about 30 years just went back to the temple as well that day and came to do baptisms also to do the work for his mom, dad and grandpa. I was able to stand in place of his mom, and we were all in tears. The entire group had brought family names to do, and we were all in tears. I have never felt the spirit so strongly in the temple doing baptisms. And it grew my testimony of the power of family history and the blessing that come from it. This gospel is so amazing! And so true!

We are back to snow here in Pampa, I am hoping for a white Christmas!!! Have a wonderful week and an even more wonderful Christmas season! I can't wait to talk with all the family on Christmas day:)

I get an extra week on my mission

This week was a really fun one!
First off, some news...so the MTC has made it so that missionaries who will serve in their native language will now spend 3 weeks in the MTC instead of 2 weeks like it has been done recently. Which means, missionaries will be coming into the field a week later than planned. This will effect our mission in the month of March, so my last transfer is now going to be 7 weeks instead of 6. So basically, I get an extra week on my mission. I AM PUMPED. I was so excited when Sister Heap and the Assistants let me know. So my new return date is March 30th, I'm pretty sure about that. I'm not too sure how that is all going to line up with Lindsey having a baby on April 2nd, but I'm sure we'll make it work!
Annnyway, we had a much better week! We were seriously all over the place. Tuesday we had Zone Training in Borger, which is always the best! I think I did alright in my instruction. It kinda came out really harsh, whoops! Who knew ditsy me could throw down the hammer. But I ended it with love, so hopefully it was alright! Then I went straight from there up to Dalhart with Sister Moore for exchanges! That was such a fun exchange! I met sister Moore exactly a year ago when we were serving in neighboring towns in New Mexico. And it was so amazing to see how both of us had changed so much. We also got to go knocking on a bunch of mansions! That was intimidating, but we actually met some really cool people. Who knew there were millionaires in little Dalhart, TX of about 10,000 people...
When I got back to Pampa, we had plans to stop by really quick by an elderly woman who we do service for from our ward before going to an appointment. We walked up and she said, "hey sisters! I'm going visiting teaching, y'all comin'?" So, my lovely companions decided to send me with her on splits to do some visiting teaching while they went to the lesson. I was a little worried about it, with her being so old, but man that was one of the funnest hours of my mission! We went to visit a woman in the ward who is 92. I laughed the entire way through. They have the funniest and most amazing stories. And I learned so much. By the time my companions came back to get me, they were so jealous they had missed out!
I am loving celebrating the Christmas season here in Pampa. The lights are slowly being put up, and we even have a little (like really little) tree now! We were able to watch the Christmas devotional last night at our bishop's home with some recent converts and investigators. It was such a successful night! Elder Bednar's talk about the light at Christmas time was amazing. Christ truly is our light and our life. If you didn't get a chance to hear it, go look it up! It will change the way you look at Christmas! And speaking of, we have spent lots of time using the new Christmas initiative. It is such a wonderful and easy way to do missionary work. You can look it up at christmas.mormon.org.

I love you all and hope you have an amazing week and wonderful Christmas season!
Love,

TORNADO

I know y'all were all probably wondering about the tornado, because it seemed like everyone was asking about it. As you can see, we survived! The whole night was actually so fun. Kinda scary, but we were in the Jennings (our ward mission leader and his family) cellar and totally safe:) There were 11 of us in this tiny hole in the ground basically, but we were all singing and joking around and laughing. People in Pampa don't take tornadoes too seriously, because they are so used to them! From what I heard (since as missionaries we still don't really know all the details even though we lived through it) three touched down in Pampa, and there was some damage:( But we were blessed with a lot less than there could have been! The biggest one was a mile wide!!! But it all stayed on the east and south edges of town. I have just always wanted to be in a tornado on my mission. It's ridiculous, I know. But I was so pumped to experience it!

After the crazy of Monday night, things calmed down quiet a bit here in Pampa. More than we would have liked. It seemed like all of the solid people we were teaching just started slipping out of our fingers and we were left with few people to teach. It was definitely a trying week. Between stressed companions, doubting investigators, and empty days, I was about ready to just give up on trying. But it's in those moments that I remember my dear Savior. As He wept in Agony in Gethsemane and ached on Calvary, He never once gave up.  And because He never did, He overcame death, pain, sorrow, affliction, temptation; He overcame the world. With Christ, these trying weeks are able to make me stronger and turn me into the woman God sees me as. This Thanksgiving week, I am so grateful for that knowledge. I am grateful that it doesn't just apply to me, but every single person I meet. I am grateful that God sees us for who we can become instead of who we are. I am grateful that He gives us the way to become the people He sees us as. And most of all, I am grateful for my Savior who makes it all possible.

Things are already looking up here. Even on the hardest of days, I am loving every second and grateful for this sacred opportunity to serve the Lord.

I hope you all have a wonderful week! And a reeeeally Happy Thanksgiving!

Love,
Hermana Peck

P.S. Mom, all I want is your apple crisp and homemade rolls...no one makes them like you

The pictures are of the tornado and the missionaries in the cellar!

Ready to work with us, share the gospel, do family history, attend the temple and strengthen her family

Transfer news!! NOTHING IS HAPPENING. Seriously, that was such a shock to all of us! But the trio of life will be staying in good ol' Pampa, TX through Christmas! I am so PUMPED! I wanted so badly to stay in Pampa for Thanksgiving and Christmas, and now I get to!! It is crazy to be with Sister Wilkins for 3 transfers, I normally just get one with all my companions! Plus we get to have Sister Carter with us too! Basically, our entire district stayed the same. But everyone else seems to have some crazy transfers. The best one? Sister Perez is coming up to be in Canyon, TX and I will get to see her all the time! I cannot wait. Such a blessing. Besides the ones who have gone home, i am surrounded by all my companions, past and present. This is going to be such a good transfer!

Now for the even better news, MEGAN WAS BAPTIZED THIS WEEK. It was such a sweet baptism. She was so ready and SO excited. I have never taught anyone so prepared. She and her husband cried the entire way through. And we even had several investigators and less actives attend the baptism. It was such a wonderful and successful night. The entire chapel was full of people and even more, full of the spirit! We are planning to go to the temple with her on the 12th of December! And she is on fire--so ready to work with us, share the gospel, do family history, attend the temple and strengthen her family to either return to or join the church. She truly is an example to me! It was just such a happy and glorious weekend!

A talk was given at her baptism that really hit. I wanted to share a thought from it that I loved. And I didn't write this down, so it may be a little off from what she shared, but the principle will be the same. So, there was a man who once decided to walk a tightrope across Niagara Falls from the American side to the Canadian side. That's about 375 yards long, if I can remember right from the story. Everyone thought he was crazy, but he said he could do it. He hopped up and made it all the way across! And then back again. Both sides of the falls had huge crowds cheering him on. He took it up a step and rode a unicycle across. Back and forth and back again. He truly was amazing! The people were cheering and so excited for his success. He then took a sack of potatoes with him, and made it again. He was doing the impossible. He then asked the crowds on both sides if there were any volunteers to go across with him. Silence. Although he proved himself many times that he could do the impossible, he had no volunteers to go with him. It is the save with our Savior. He did the impossible. He suffered in the Garden of Gethsemane, died on the cross, and rose again 3 days later. But so often, no one is willing to follow Him, even though He has proven that He can help us achieve the impossible as well. Living the gospel is never easy, but with Christ, it is possible, and it is glorious! I know with all my heart that this is true.

The work here in Pampa is doing amazing. I am so blessed to be out here in the Lord's vineyard, being an instrument in the hand of the Lord for bringing about the Salvation of His children. I love this gospel, I love this work, and I love my Savior, Jesus Christ. I hope you all can feel the blessings of His Atoning sacrifice every day in your lives, as we are promised we can feel.

I love you dearly and hope you have a wonderful week!

The work in Pampa is still going great!

Temple trip
Exchanges in Dalhart!
Sisters in the Amarillo Zone!
Good news of Dalhart, I made it there and back safely with no sprained ankle and no visit to the hospital! Thank goodness, that was traumatic last time.

Saturday we got to take a trip down to Lubbock and go to the temple!! That was the highlight of my week! The temple is such a wonderful blessing in my life and a great opportunity to be closer to the Lord than any other place. It truly is the Lord's house and in it, we can find so much peace.

The work here in Pampa is still going great! We didn't get to teach Olivia this week, but we did service for her and that went great! She is so happy and sweet. I love being able to share the gospel with her. Tricia is coming so close to receiving her answer about the Book of Mormon. We are seeing so much change in her, she is even already sharing the gospel with so many people! And also, Megan is getting baptized this Saturday! We are so excited for her. The service is going to be wonderful! And she has invited all her friends and family, so it is going to be a perfect opportunity to invite the spirit and share the gospel with so many that don't have it! She is truly amazing. We brought her and her husband to a lesson with us this week and it was so cool to listen to her testify of the gospel. She was introduced to the church 1 year ago, and the changes in her are miraculous! The gospel of Jesus Christ is meant for change and I am so grateful for that! If it were about perfection, we would never be happy, but Father loves us enough to allow us to change little by little, day by day, through His Son Jesus Christ, and feel happiness everyday! I love being a part of the Work of Salvation, and I love this Gospel even more!

Have a wonderful week! Love you all!

I want to be a Texan forever!

Compas
Can I just start off by saying, being a missionary is the best blessing my Heavenly Father could ever give to me! He loves each one of us so much, and as I go out everyday, I see the evidence of that even more. I had the sweetest experience as we were driving to Lubbock this weekend. It was pouring rain, I was stressed because we were running late for Sister Wilkins' doctor appointment in Lubbock, and the music that was playing was just a little too anxiety-enhancing, for lack of a better word. I asked Sister Carter to change it, and a soft arrangement of Called to serve came up. The rain stopped, and the sun popped out of the clouds just in time to light up the darkened, wet ground. The windmills of the Texas Panhandle were flying, and I could see my badge in the corner of my eye. My heart just filled with joy as I looked at the beautiful place I have been blessed to serve in, and the wonderful calling I have to teach this glorious gospel. My loving heavenly Father knew just the right thing to do and the right time to do it to calm me down and help me feel His love. It was so simple, but so sweet. Every day is filled with little moments like those that help remind me that He knows me, He knows my name, and He loves me. And I know He feels the same about all of you!

In addition to that, this week was FULL of happy moments! I got to go to Borger this week on exchanges! The area is a lot different now, but I was able to visit with Crystal, a member that I worked a ton with in Borger. I was so happy to see her and her daughter, Mariah. They are doing alright, but I know that day, the Lord was able to use me as a tool in answering a small part of their prayers. I love them both so much! It was just such a blessing to be back in a place that I love sooo much!

Side note about Borger...we were on bikes and on the drive over there, my bike pedal fell off. So I rode around all day with only one pedal. I have no idea how I made that happen, but it worked! Thank goodness!

Another side note before I get back to the miracles: we helped a member out in one of our outlying towns this week, and her boss treated us to a REAL Texas steakhouse for lunch....can I just say WOW. I want to be a Texan forever. I want to live in a tiny town, eat steak and cobbler, and drive in a truck everyday for the rest of my life!

But back to the goodness.  So we had our ward trunk or treat this week and the BIGGEST miracle happened. I was smiling ear to ear. I couldn't believe what happened! So, there is a lady named Olivia that we do service for every week at her work. We have been wanting to teach her, but the opportune moment just hadn't come up yet! So God just handed it to us! We were in the kitchen, judging the chili, because that was our job. And out of nowhere, Olivia walked into the church! She was all casual to see us, as if she knew that we would be there (we didn't even invite her). We were so pumped that she was there! but to add to it, our investigator Tricia then walked in to welcome her. TRICIA INVITED OLIVIA!!! They used to go to church together, and are super good friends. WHAT? We were so excited. Olivia met basically everyone in the ward and had such a good time. She even told everyone she would come to church. It was such a miracle of service, and we were so happy! She ended up not coming to church, which we were sad about...BUT she met with us last night and it was amazing. We taught her about the restoration of the church and she loved it! She was so excited to read the Book of Mormon, and she explained how she felt an excited feeling, pulling her in to learn more. I have never met someone like her and I feel so blessed to have this opportunity to teach her! We gave her a tour of the church after, and it was truly perfect! I wish I could go into all the details about that experience, because I was amazed the whole time. Such a blessing, and I am so excited for her!

Friday and Saturday we were gone all day. Friday we had Sister Wilkins MRI in Lubbock...pray for her to be healthy! It went well and we'll see the results sometime this week. That night, we went to an MLC at the mission home. WOW. It was about 20 missionaries, President and Sister Heap, and Elder and Sister Foster (who came for the mission tour). Simply put, that was amazing. And the next day the mission tour was just wonderful! I learned so much about grace. I think that has been kinda my theme lately. But it was amazing to be reminded by a general authority and my mission president that I don't have to be perfect, I just have to keep trying to be a little better everyday. My favorite part of the entire weekend was that he truly came to say that we are doing well, we can do better, but God loves us individually, and He's happy for the work we've done so far. Now it's just time to step it up, because we're ready! And I am pumped about it! It was fun to be in Lubbock and see so many missionaries that I love! I even got to visit with Sister Perez, and that was so happy! Man, it just never stops. This gospel is amazing!

Halloween was great! It was a chill night, but we had a good time painting pictures...and each others faces. Man, it is a wonderful life as a missionary!

I love you all! Have a great week!

October 26, 2015 - There is literally a podium for preaching in downtown Childress

Hello again dear friends and family! This week was WILD. We were all over west Texas! Tuesday, we spent the day in Amarillo at a Zone Conference, which as always was AMAZING. I just wish you all could hear my mission leaders instruct. It is so enlightening, spiritually filling, and personal revelation inviting. It is exactly what I needed! I am so grateful to be led by such inspired people!

From Zone Conference, I headed off to Childress with Sister Olsen. Sisters Wilkins and Carter went back to Pampa with Sister Starr for exchanges. That was a crazy day. And dad, you'll be proud to hear this...I ATE CATFISH. We stopped in Clarendon on our way to Childress to visit a less active family and they invited us to eat with them. I was pumped when she said fried okra (yes, I am a Texan who loves okra now), but I think I died a little inside when she said catfish. BUT I survived! And I didn't hate it. I didn't necessarily like it, but hey...improvement:) You should be proud of me, pops! Anyway, Childress is the cutest place ever. The people are so nice! And my favorite part is that there is literally a podium for preaching in downtown Childress. Oh West Texas and their love for religion, it is amazing. The people are so good here! Also, sad story of that day, we finally got back to Pampa, and I realized I had taken the sisters phone..oopsies! It took forever to get a hold of them, but somehow, the Lord sorted it all out for us...yay for a day when we still see miracles!

Also, we got all moved in this week! I love our new place and we are so blessed to be there. And much safer, but those details don't matter:)

So, onto the work! So, last night we met the cutest couple. We were 100% led to them and it was too perfect. One thing I know to be true is that even when we're not paying attention, the Lord will lead us in our lives to where we need to be. And when we get there, hopefully we make the right decision. And if not, we will be led again to another point and be given try after try to be better. This couple was so sweet and so prepared! They both are looking for more faith and they are expecting a new baby! They let us in to share a message after talking for less than a minute. I literally couldn't believe how perfect it all went. That doesn't happen too often, so we we're especially grateful last night for having met them!

Our investigator Megan is still so pumped for her baptism! We are so excited for her and I just can't wait until she is going to the temple and helping spread the gospel. She will be an amazing missionary to so many people!

And Tricia is doing well! She is progressing like crazy. She is seeing a lot of opposition in her life. It's so lame how Satan does that to us when we are so close to receiving all that Father has for us! But I know that God's power will always overcome any power that Satan tries to have over us. We are fasting for her this weekend and I know that will bring so many needed blessings! Please just keep praying for her!

We are seriously so blessed with so many miracles and I love this work forever. Even though it was the hardest decision I ever had to make in my life, it was the best! There is nothing sweeter than the work of bringing others closer to Christ, and in turn coming closer to Christ myself! I love you all so much and I hope you have a wonderful week!

October 19, 2015 - The Field is White Already to Harvest

THE FIELD IS WHITE, ALREADY TO HARVEST
I love Texas!
First off, before I forget...We are moving this week! I am so pumped to get out of the house we're living in and move into our gorgeous apartment:) Not too pumped about the actual packing and moving part, but that's why we serve in Texas where everyone has a truck and can help us! Our new address is:
1312 N. Russell
Pampa, TX 79065
So write me and send stuff there!

Anyway, this week was too much fun! I am seriously amazed every single day by how many miracles we see, how much we are blessed, all the things we learn, and how much fun we have. Missionary work is the best thing anyone could ever do in this life. It is seriously a part every day, even when it is super hard. But the hard times are what make the good times so sweet! And they help us truly focus on what is most important.

Our investigator Megan is baptism ready! It will be on the 14th! I am so pumped for her. She is making invites for all her non-member friends and family, and she is already set to go to the temple on the 12th of December. Literally, she is so ready. I didn't even so anything, she has been so prepared by so many amazing sisters over this past year, and now I just get to be a part of the super special day where she opens the gate to a celestial life through baptism by proper authority. It is just too cool to see the way the gospel has changed her this past year!

As we all fill our life with the goodness of the gospel, we no longer have any disposition to do evil, but to do good continually. And every time we do good, we kick Satan down and stop him from winning. He puts up a fight, but we truly can put up a better one. Christ has overcome the world and with His help, we can truly become the people we have wanted to become for eternity!

Tuesday, we were able to go on exchanges with the sisters in the Canyon ward. I stayed in Pampa with sister Brunt and sister Carter. It was so fun! Sister Brunt trained sister Perez the rest of the way after I left Carlsbad, so the whole time, we just go to talk about how much we love her and the people in Carlsbad. We were able to teach so many people and see a TON of miracles! I love being able to go on exchanges so many times a transfer, because exchanges seriously bring miracles that we could never expect. Even when people sadly reject the message, it just strengthens my personal testimony of the truthfulness of this gospel!

The next day we had exchanges with the sisters in the Canyon YSA branch. I went to Canyon with Sister Nichols. Let me just say, serving in a YSA would be crazy. They do a lot of finding on the campus at WTAMU. That is wild. Everyone is so rushed, and somehow, they are able to discern which of all the people passing by are ready to hear the message. It was amazing to watch how it works, and I learned so much from them!

Friday was MLC, and it was amazing! I am so blessed to have leaders in my mission that are SO inspired. President Heap talked about improving personal prayer. Which is something I really need to do! I loved growing in my understanding of what we really are doing as we pray and how much every word matters.

I wanted to keep going, but time is basically up. I love you all. Have a great week!

October 12, 2015

Hello again! Another week has flown by. I cannot believe how quick Mondays come around these days. Time is flying by too quickly! But it is such a blessing, because it means we are working hard and seeing miracles! This week was such a good one. I LOVE BEING IN A TRIO. Sister Carter was the perfect addition to mine and Sister Wilkins's companionship. She is so sweet too! She has been out for about 8 months now and is from Chicago. And she needed to be ere in Pampa. We needed her and all the people we work with needed her. It is seriously the best thing ever. And this week, everything exploded (in a good way) here in Pampaland North! Tuesday we picked up Sister Carter in Amarillo and headed off straight to a lesson. And we've been so blessed ever since.

Megan, our investigator, finally has a date set! She will be baptized on the 14th of November. She is so ready, so excited, and so prepared. She literally amazes me with all the knowledge she has! And even after studying for over a year, she is just as excited to be baptized today and she was when she first learned about the gospel. And even more excited to be sealed to her new husband!

Tim is doing well. He accepted an invitation to be baptized on The 13th of November. But he is really struggling to fight off temptation. We meet with him every day, trying to help him. The Lord even blessed us to meet someone who needed a younger guy to do some work, and Tim really needed a job! Huge blessing! So please pray for him!

Andrew is a new investigator. We weren't sure how solid he was. But randomly this week, he called us and told us he needed us to come over. We had no idea why, but we went over, and he shared an experience about how God told him that it is time to change. And he preceded to ask to be baptized! So exciting! He is reading, working on the word of wisdom, and came to church! He may be moving to Waco in a week, so sad, but he plans to study with missionaries there too!

Finally, Tricia. Our lesson the first night in Pampa with Sister Carter was with her Tricia. I can't remember if I have mentioned her yet, but she is amazing. She is the wife of a recent convert names Miah. He is seriously so converted and so solid. She is very involved in her current church, but she knows that this church is Christ's restored church on the earth. Like, she KNOWS that it is true. Sh is just really scared of what will happen if she converts, because her church preaches a lot of anti Mormon material. Anyway, to make a really long story short...all transfer long, as I would read my scriptures, phrases similar to "thousands were converted unto the Lord" kept standing out to me. I couldn't figure out why, until I mentioned it to Sister Wilkins, and she started recognizing it too. It would come up every day. We were searching and praying to know, and finally one day, the spirit taught us what it meant! Reading over the chapters of Alma 17-24, you find the story of the sons of Mosiah and their missions. The first son goes to teach King Lamoni (Miah). Ammon serves him and eventually gets to teach him the gospel. Lamoni is converted and baptized. Later, King Lamoni's wife (Tricia) comes into the story. She sees what has happened, and with time, becomes converted as well. Once she decided to take that step, her entire household and their city become converted. THOUSANDS converted unto the Lord, because of the faith of 2 people. Later, Ammon goes with King Lamoni to help his brother get out of prison. On the way, they meet King Lamoni's father (Miah's dad), who is sooo against the conversion of his son (true in Miah's story too). But, after time, Aaron, Ammon's brother is able to teach King Lamoni's father. He then becomes converted. Then his wife. Then their households. And then all the 7 cities and towns that he reigns over. THOUSANDS. This was a spiritual smack in the face. Tricia is literally the key to bringing thousands unto Christ. AMAZING. So if that story makes no sense to you, sorry, I'm typing quickly. But I could not believe it. Then, to make the story even cooler, we went and shared this learning experience we had with Tricia. She was amazed. Miah was amazed. They proceeded to tell us that when Miah was first baptized and Tricia came to church with him, the bishop mentioned to her that she could bring thousands with her if she came to choose what she knew to be true. AND, when Miah and Tricia were setup, the woman told them that she didn't know why she felt prompted to set them up, but that the Lord told her they had an important job t do together. Seriously, the spirit was so strong in that lesson. Things were unfolded unto us that none of us knew were part of the story. But the more we taught, the more we saw that the Lord is working so much here in Pampa. I am so excited to see where this goes! Tricia even came to church this week. She left her church in the middle of it to come to ours. It took so much courage, but she did it! Please pray for her. There is so much pressure on her, and the devil knows all that she has the potential to do. He's fighting hard, but we will fight harder! Miracles, conversion, and truth is happening here in Pampa--I love it!

This church is so true and the Lord is leading our lives so much more than we know! Love you all! Have a great week!

p.s. There were so many frogs here this summer that got hit by cars Literally, when we ride around on bikes, there are dead frogs everywhere. Whoever invented the game of frogger must have lived in Pampa.

October 5, 2015

Hello dear friends and family! I sure do miss you lots! Conference always does that to me. Thinking about how we are all watching it at the same time, makes me realize how close you really are! On that note, wasn't conference AMAZING. I loved it. I had so many needed questions answered and I can just feel the spiritual strength it gave me. Sister Wilkins and I are staring our Ponderizing goals now, I wanted to know how I could start being better at scripture use and that was a perfect answer! I loved the promise that ponderizing a scripture a week will give us a deeper knowledge of gospel truths. I want that blessing, so I'll be sure to do it! This weeks is Alma 34:14--I can't wait to see what I'll learn!

As for transfer news this week. I GET TO STAY IN PAMPA. I am so pumped! And the best part about it...I actually get to stay with my companion!! And the cherry on top, we're becoming a TRIO! Sister Carter is coming up to join us! I've never been in a trio, so we'll see how it goes, but I am sure that I'll love it! Even more of a party every day:) She will be companion #10. I can't believe it!

This week was so good! As I mentioned last week, we were on bikes most of the week. It was so great though! I felt so energized and we met so many cool people. So many more members came out to help us, and we saw so many miracles. One of the biggest was that my ankle did great and I didn't even have pain as we biked all around town. Another one of the biggest ones was that the cold weather held off until the day after we got our car back! HUGE BLESSING. Part of me wished I was actually in a bike area, but I think I like the car too much now that it is COLD. Speaking of that, I have no idea where it came from, but it's winter now! Well, more like a chilly fall. But we are in scarfs and sweaters. It was a quick change from the 90 to 50 degree weather in just a couple days--that's the panhandle for you!

This week I got to speak lots of Spanish! I think we had about 5 Spanish lessons which was fun for me! I always feel bad, because my companion can't really talk during them, but she is learning! She can say prayers and the first vision:)

We are seeing lots of progression with our investigators. I don't have much time, so I'll give a quick overview: Megan is still planning on being baptized. For sure within the transfer! She was texting us all weekend about conference--she loved it! Yay! Our investigator Pat will be baptized on Halloween. She wants it to be a secret...her husband is a member and she wants him to baptize her but not know that she chose to be baptized until the second they walk into the water together...not sure how that'll work. But we're going to try! A less active couple that we're working with, Pam and Tracy are doing SO well. They read and pray together every night and watch ALL of conference and LOVED IT. The spirit is working miracles in their hearts:) And also, Tim came to conference!!! We tried SO MANY times to get him there, and he kept canceling. But after banging on every window of his house Sunday morning, we woke him up and got him there!...Hey, sometimes you got to give them a bug push haha.

Things are so great here! I love it and I love all of you. I hope you all were able to feel the power in this last conference. I know that everyone who spoke, spoke the words of the Lord, and as we listen closely, we can hear His voice peaking directly to each of us.

Have a great week!

Classic bike day photo
Hello family! I don't know how spiritually filling this email will be, because oh my goodness this week has just been packed with moments that I just can't stop laughing at. But I'll just share a few...

Anyway, story #1
So, Saturday was MLC in Lubbock with Elder Palmer of the seventy and Elder Lynn G. Robbins of the presidency of the seventy. It was so amazing! And exactly what all of us at MLC needed to hear. But that's not the story, that was just super cool. We drove to Amarillo after on our way back to Pampa to go to our investigator's wedding. I hadn't met her yet, because she's been so busy getting her wedding ready while going to school. We are both without a GPS, so we got lost for a solid hour around Amarillo looking for the wedding. When we finally got there, we had completely missed the actually ceremony and showed up just in time to stuff our faces with wedding food and all the classic evening festivities, like the bouquet toss and and the dance party. Let's just say, when they start blasting single ladies, and you're a missionary, and your investigator (that you don't even know) keeps yelling at you to come up and catch the bouquet, and your bishop is just looking at you like "I wonder what they're going to do...?", there is no other more uncomfortable moment in the whole world. Sister Wilkins and I just sat there, so uncomfortable, and refused to get up. The entire wedding was looking right at us, don't worry, being set apart is a REAL THING. Haha, I started to feel a little normal that night, but after that, I was reminded 100% that I am a missionary. And I am so happy for that reminder!

Story #2
Wednesday, we went up to Dalhart with the sisters there to take them on exchanges. They cover 2 areas, so all Wednesday, I was in Dalhart, and Sister Wilkins went to Tucumcari. But we all spent the night in Dalhart, which was a total party. The entire thing was going great. We had a successful exchanges, and we had plans to wake up on Thursday and all go outside to play some soccer in the street for our workout. Can I just say how pumped I was for this! We got outside, and we were walking over to where the street light was at so we could see the ball, but I decided it would be fun to run over there and get everyone else as pumped as I was. BAD IDEA. I was running backwards, cheering them to run with me, and then BOOM, on the ground, in so.much.pain. My foot hit a dip in the road where it turned from a normal road, to a cobble stone road. My ankle (being as lovely as it is) rolled so perfectly, snapped so loud, and knocked me over. I went straight into complete shock. Nausea, dizzyness, super hot then freezing in 2 seconds, mood swings (crying in crazy pain on second and laughing my head of the next). It was crazy. We were all convinced it was broken because of the shock I went into. I LOOKED LIKE A CRAZY PERSON. I had to crawl down the street to the car and was driven to the emergency room in Dalhart, TX to be treated for shock and a possible broken ankle. Luckily, it is just sprained. I am back to normal, just a little limp and a brace. I just keep playing the moment over and over again in my head. It was so me, I've just been waiting for the day that I get this type of injury on my mission...we all knew it would happen eventually. Oopsies!

Story #3
Our house has vivint (the security system), and our front door lock has been struggling recently. We were trying to leave this morning to go email, and we somehow set off the alarm to our house! Within like 2 minutes, 2 cops were at our house, questioning us to make sure we weren't trying to break in. It was a mess...But I am glad to know that they'll show up that quickly if something does happen.

Anyway, things are going great here in Pampa! I am having so much fun and the time is FLYING by. I gave a talk in Sacrament yesterday. So, I've been studying all about the fall and the atonement and how it relates to Christ's love recently and how to gain the kind of love He has. How to really love as Christ loves One big thing I learned is that, just like all the other attributes of charity that we read in Moroni 7, we have to learn how to love. It's not something we just fall into by accident, and it's not something we just fall out of. It takes work! I am truly so blessed to be on a mission and learn all about the love that our Father in Heaven and our Savior Jesus Christ have for us. It is truly so amazing what they do because they love us!

One last thing, pray for our investigator Tim, please!! He is trying so hard to change, but has some crazy stuff happening in his life. Yesterday, he was praying to know how to fix his situation, and he thought to call us, but then he didn't. But we still showed up anyway (I love the spirit!). We had 0 idea what to say to help him, so we all said a prayer, and he opened up the Book of Mormon, and the VERY FIRST VERSE had his answer. It was amazing! A huge testimony builder for all of us. And he really wants to move forward, so just pray for him! I'll keep you updated on how it goes.

Love you all!! And have a wonderful week!

My ankle brace has become a part of me.
This was with the Childress sisters. Like 10 minutes away from Oklahoma!
Hello family and so many people that I love dearly! This week was fabulous! Just as an update, my ankle is doing MUCH better. I can walk enough to do the work. And I've been taking it easy, because today we have to turn in our car to get it worked on for about a week. Which means biking everywhere with my hurt ankle! Pray for me. But I think I should be fine, because I've been taking really good care of it this week. My companion kinda forced me too, because we wanted to make sure we could still get out and work this week!

Anyway, our week was AMAZING! We had so much fun, and saw so many blessings. Plus, with the transfer coming to an end, we finished up with exchanges and we now have a full week and a half without having to leave our area. I am pumped to get good work done!

Speaking of exchanges, they were great this past week. We went to Childress, about 100 miles away from our area for a day with the sisters there! It was great. That place is golden for missionary work and the people are amazing. I don't think I have ever been hugged by so many strangers in my entire life! And they needed help with contacting all their Spanish people, so basically that's what I did. Talked a whole lot of Spanish! I'm not sure how much I was able to teach the sister I was with, but it was fun.  The sisters there are amazing. One of them knows Chrystal! She wasn't her student, but she would hang out in her class all the time. That was fun to find out!

So, teaching this week was great. Our investigator Megan, the one who was married last week, is ready now to be baptized! She is so excited about it too. I've only been able to teach her like once, because she has been so busy with school and her wedding, but now we are getting back into teaching and getting her ready! I had a super amazing experience at her wedding that I didn't share last week. But I was able to share that with her as we taught her this week, and it was truly wonderful. We were both in tears, and the spirit was strong. I am excited for her to now be baptized and get ready to be sealed a year from that day!

Also, I taught my oldest investigator ever this week! A 90 year old man named Zane! It was so fun! He is the cutest, and cried the whole way through. I loved teaching him, and I know he has been given this time for a purpose. It's time for him to accept the gospel!

Our investigator Tim is doing great too! He didn't come to church:( Which totally broke our hearts! But he is still doing really well besides that. So pray for him to wake up and make it to church! This week, we taught him almost everyday. He is changing so much, and even noticing how he is changing. He is making talking with us a priority, he prays in lessons now, and he has been reading what we ask him to read between lessons. This gospel truly changes people, and I love being able to watch it. We had a super cool experience last night. We brought one of the recent converts to the lesson, and it was PERFECT. Tim has a friend, Omar, who always is there when we show up, but he sneaks out before the lesson. But last night, he decided to stay, but didn't really say anything. Before the lesson, we had decided to teach the plan of salvation, but had no idea why. It was for Omar! As we taught about Christ's Atonement, he started responding really well. He started asking questions about if he could really change and how he could do it. He asked about our personal experiences, and all three of us were able to testify of how the gospel has personally changed us. Even Tim, our investigator began to tell him about how it has changed his life since we have met him! It was seriously amazing! Omar then told us a story about how one time, sister missionaries talked to him and his friends while they were drinking. He ignored them and crumpled up the picture of Christ they gave him. That night, he got in a huge head on collision and just about died. The first thing he saw after was that picture of Christ as it fell out of His pocket. He paused for just a bit, and then said that he hopes God will give him this second chance to fix his life. And I know with all my heart that He will! This gospel is about second, third, and forever more chances. We can always change!

I love this gospel, I love being a missionary, and I love you all so much! And I hope this week is great for you!

Kids have influence on their family

Exchanges with Sister Jackson--
I felt so short all day!
I cannot believe I have already been out here for a year! That time seriously flew by. And it become more and more real every day of how little time I have left to have this wonderful blessing of being a missionary! And of course we had to celebrate! I can't pass up a reason to have fun. Sister Wilkins and I went out to a classy (well, as classy as Pampa, TX can be) Texas BBQ Steak House and enjoyed delicious Texas food.

Also, I'm not even sure if I have talked about Cayden yet in my emails, because there is always like no time, but he is this adorable 8 year old kid that we have been teaching. His entire family, besides his grandpa is less active, and he decided that he wanted to be baptized and start coming to church, even if his family doesn't go. Seriously, he is the smartest kid ever! And so desirous to do good. He will be the reason his family comes back! He is like the Nephi of his family--I love it. But anyway, HE WAS BAPTIZED THIS WEEK. It was such a powerful baptism. And his great grandma got up at the end and bore her testimony. Everyone in the room was in tears.  It was amazing!

Also, funny story about the baptism. Our font here only runs hot water, so it was about 125 degrees in the font. We had no idea how to cool it down, so we had to get real inventive...we took a mop bucket, put in a clear trash bag, and would fill it with cold water in the maintenance closet. Then we would run it over to the font and dump it in. After about 15 minutes of looking like the hugest fools, we realized how to turn down the water heater....it was so ridiculous, but a good memory for sure!

This week we also went on exchanges with the sisters in Canyon, TX. Sister Wilkins and I had planned to have me go to Canyon, because I had only been in Pampa 2 weeks, and don't know the area well enough (or at all) to lead out in it. BUT after a whole lot of prayer, we decided that The Lord wanted me to stay in Pampa for the day. So I took the lead in an area I have been in for like 2.5 weeks with a sister who has been on her mission for 2.5 weeks. And somehow-we survived! We seriously saw so many miracles. I did not want to do it, but the Lord blessed us immensely for being willing to follow His will. We found a family to teach, lots of potential investigators, 2 less active members that no one knew about, and we taught some amazing lessons--and had a ton of fun, and somehow didn't get lost the entire time. It was too perfect!

We also got to do a ton of service this week! I was cutting down trees and felt like a macho woman. That is seriously so much harder than it looks! And we were helping an 84 year old woman who normally cuts her trees herself--so cool! She is way intense.

Also, quick update on Erma, the girl we found last week.  We got to teach her this week and she wants to be baptized!! I am so pumped! Hopefully this gets her uncle reactivated and her entire family interested. It amazes me how much influence kids can have on their family. It is no surprise that the Lord tells us to become as little children! They are truly so humble and close to the spirit.

I love you all and I love being a missionary. I want you all to know how much I love my Savior, Jesus Christ. And if you want to know why I love Him so much, read this talk:

Our Savior made it possible for us all to be lifted up from our fallen state. Without Him, there would be no hope, but with Him, there is eternal happiness!

Love you!

Sep. 8, 2015 I absolutely love being up here in Pampa

Hello everyone! I hope your week has been wonderful, because mine was soooo happy! I absolutely love being up here in Pampa and I wouldn't want to be anywhere else! Except for all the bajillion places that we go throughout the week, then I want to be there:)

So, Tuesday was the best day ever. I got to go to exchanges in Borger with Hermana Vance! It was just like I was back there, seeing all the people I love! I got to teach Lourdes, my old investigator, Doug, my recent convert, and Mario, one of my old investigators that was baptized right after I left! And a few members that I love dearly. Truly, I felt blessed. I loved being back there, speaking so much Spanish, and being with people that have truly changed my life.

Friday, we had MLC down in Lubbock, which was great. It was all focused on being better leaders, so it was perfect for my first MLC. I am learning so much about how to help my sisters and it truly is changing me for the better. The Lord seriously always knows what He's doing. When He calls us, it has nothing to do with how perfect we are, but because He knows what we need to become more like Him. And I am growing more and more every day because of all He is teaching me.

The rest of the week, we got to stay in our area thankfully:) And we saw so many miracles! People that usually want nothing to with with us are opening up and sharing so much with us, so we can better help them. We are finding new investigators too. They have all said they believe our message is true, and the spirit is strong. One lesson in particular, we were teaching a girl named Melody. She has had a crazy life, full of many trials, and the spirit was so strong as we taught the Restoration, applying it to her specific needs. After sharing the first vision, she just looked up, smiled, and said she had such strong chills. The spirit had testified to her heart that it was true, and she was so open, that you could literally see it change her countenance. I love this work so much!

Also, Sunday, we drove to one of our outlying towns, Panhandle, TX, to visit a less active and teach a potential investigator. Right as we got into town, our gas light popped up...we were 30 miles outside of our area, on a Sunday, with no gas. We prayed real hard and went to our appointments. In the lesson with our potential investigator, we found out that she had always wanted to know more about our church. She has even read the entire Book of Mormon, I have no idea why she never joined, but she is VERY interested, and I am excited. We are blessed to be led to such prepared people. And then, the adventure home...oh man. 100 degree heat and no AC, because we were trying to save gas...after about 15 minutes, our car wouldn't even tell us how many miles we could drive before running our of gas officially. By grace, and a lot of prayer and faith, we made it back to Pampa in one piece and just walked the rest of the night:)

...and while we were out walking we met this girl. We asked if she had ever met missionaries and she responded, "no, but I'm Mormon...", as if to say that she didn't want to listen to what we had to say. My companion and I both looked at one another so confused and happily said that we were Mormons too! After talking a little more, she told us that she had never been baptized. She just goes to the church with her uncle every once in a while, but they haven't been in a while. Her uncle is a recent convert and now we're going to teach them both! I am soo pumped. Seriously, I am amazed everyday at how much the Lord is blessing us.

I love you all so much! I hit a year in the mission this Thursday...super crazy! This truly is going by too quickly!

Have a wonderful week!
